Sony Interactive Entertainment published an official FAQ detailing PlayStation VR2 features including an impressive cinematic mode for PlayStation 5 players. PlayStation VR2 launches near the end of the month with an astounding amount of features and a diverse launch lineup of first-party and third-party games.

PlayStation VR2 is Sony's next foray into VR gaming following the successful first-generation PlayStation VR headset. The PlayStation VR2 headset utilizes the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 5 to deliver high-refresh-rate gaming at a vivid 2000x2040 resolution per eye. Players control PlayStation VR2 games with the all-new Sense controllers, which include DualSense features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. PlayStation VR2's launch lineup includes brand-new games such as Horizon Call of the Mountain and Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue, while VR support comes to existing PlayStation 5 games including Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village. The $549.99 list price for PlayStation VR 2 costs more than a PlayStation 5 console, but the headset may prove to be a true generational leap for Sony's VR gaming efforts on launch day.

Sony published its "Ultimate" FAQ for PlayStation VR2 revealing new details about viewing modes such as the returning cinematic mode. Players may enjoy PlayStation VR2 game content in VR mode, which displays a max resolution of 2000x2040 per eye with HD support and 90Hz to 120Hz refresh rate. In cinematic mode, players may enjoy non-VR game and media content from a virtual cinema screen. Video content in cinematic mode may be displayed in 1080p with HDR support and 24Hz to 60Hz refresh rate. While gaming in cinematic mode, PlayStation VR2 supports 120Hz refresh rate for PlayStation 5 games.

Audio and image from the PlayStation 5 will be displayed through the PlayStation VR2 headset only in cinematic mode. This is due to the lack of output from the TV side since the image is being directly displayed into the PlayStation VR2 headset. As a result, cinematic mode is geared toward a solo viewing experience for video and gaming content.

The cinematic mode is beneficial for PlayStation VR2 players wanting to take a break from moving around in VR and enjoy a relaxing, cinema-like experience. Additionally, cinematic mode should be a great option for players catch up on the latest first-party PlayStation 5 releases such as God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West.

PlayStation VR2 releases on February 22 with over 30 launch window titles to choose from. Sony will likely bring PlayStation VR2 support to more PlayStation 5 games in the near future while developing new titles. Third-party studios like Capcom and Hello Games are no stranger to the PlayStation VR2 hardware, so the future already looks bright for the new VR headset.
