Overwatch 2 is a fun game, but toxic teammates and cheating can make it difficult to bear sometimes. Luckily, there’s a report feature built into the game that can help players police each other when it comes to comm abuse and hacking.

There is a lot of ugliness when it comes to the online gaming experience, and that has seen a report function built into basically every game. Overwatch 2 is no exception, but figuring out how to report people isn’t easy. Overwatch 2 players will be left questioning how to report a griefing teammate after a tough loss, but there is a way.

Instead of having the report function built into the post-game screen alongside endorsements, players will need to sift their way through the menus in order to track down bad actors for a report. It’s not hard to access and is an easy process once players are familiar with it, but it’s not easy to find on the first attempt.

How to Report Players in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 players can make a report using the social tab on the main menu. This is the white button in the top right of the main menu, next to the challenges tab. On PC, players can simply click on it in order to access it, but console players will need to hit Y on Xbox or triangle on PlayStation, then navigate over to it.

After opening it, select the “Recent Players” tab from the top. This brings up a list of both allies and enemies that have recently been played with. On PC, right-click the player’s tab in order to start taking action or simply highlight and select them on consoles.

From there, players can choose to do a number of different things, both positive and negative. This includes sending a party invite, a friend request, or muting their comms and reporting them.

After choosing to report someone, the player will be asked why they want to report this person. Players first have to choose from a selection of potential toxic behavior. After, they are given the chance to provide more information regarding why they are submitting the report, including what the person did to warrant a report.

What Can You Report People for in Overwatch 2?

The standard list of reasons for reporting people in Overwatch 2 includes communication abuse and ruining the gameplay experience. This is divided up into six different stock options for issuing a report, including the following:

  • Abusive Chat
  • Gameplay Sabotage
  • Inactivity
  • Spam
  • Cheating
  • Bad Battletag

Most of these are straightforward in terms of in-game toxicity, going AFK, using cheats, and so on. “Bad Battletag” refers to the player’s user name. “Gameplay Sabotage” is when players actively try to reduce their team’s chances of winning. Though many Overwatch 2 players feel the report system doesn’t do enough, this is the best that’s available at this time. Unfortunately, dealing with some angry Overwatch 2 players is just part of the experience.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
